A FEATURE THAT CELEBRATES CHANGE
I'm honoured to share that my work and story are featured in the second edition of Sfumato Art Magazine - "Transitions: A Celebration Of Change Through Art." Published by Sfumato Art Creatives, this international magazine highlights artists from around the globe whose practices reflect transformation, resilience, and renewal through exploration of how art captures the essence of becoming - and I'm proud to have my work included among such powerful voices.
THE STORY BEHIND MY FEATURE
My feature, titled "The Art of Becoming" Lindsey McTavish on creativity, courage, and staying true," offers an insider look at my journey as a Canadian fibre artist - from early beginnings shaped by perseverance and motherhood, to establishing a career rooted in authenticity and emotional expression.
The article traces how art became a lifeline for me - a way to rebuild, reconnect, and find stability through the language of fibre. It also reflects on my growth as both an artist and a designer through Lindsey M Collections, and as a co-owner of The Craft Connection Gallery here in Nelson, B.C, a woman-led collective representing over 200 Canadian artisans.
Alongside the written piece, the magazine feature my 2024 fibre artwork piece "Cautiously Optimistic" - a 24" x 36" hand felted and quilted wool & silk composition that captures my ongoing fascination with movement, emotion, and hopw through layered texture and colour
THEMES THAT RESONATE
Sfumato's " Transitions" issue invites reflection on change - in art, and in perspective. it examines how creativity evolves through uncertainty, and how transformation often reveals new strength and clarity.
That theme mirrors my own process: I work in evolving seriesthat shift with time, exploring abstraction and felted form to express emotion beyond the literal. my practice is both meditative and physical - a conversation between control and release, between what's planned and what emerges naturally through fibre.
A GLOBAL PLATFORM FOR CREATIVE VOICES
Sfumato Art Magazine is more than a publication - it's a global platform amplifying creative voices that challenge, heal, and inspire.
This issue features 32 remarkable artists whose work collectively embodies the courage to evolve. The editors describe the series as "a living archive of vulnerability, resilience, and artistic spirit." Being part of that dialogue is deeply meaningful - it connects my work in nelson, B.C to a wider community of artists, curators, and collectors worldwide who value honesty, texture, and transformation in contemporary art.
